Leadership

Brandon Samuel – Lead Pastor:  Seeing people’s lives transformed by Christ is Brandon’s greatest passion.  He believes leading the local church is the most humbling and exciting calling in the world.  After graduating from Bible college, Brandon received his Masters of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School, and is currently working toward a Doctoral degree in Pastoral Leadership.  Prior to coming to Commonwealth Chapel, Brandon led a growing church in Binghamton, New York not far from his hometown of Syracuse.  Brandon met his wife Katie in high school, and four years after a disastrous first date, she took pity on him and married him.  Above all else, the goal of Brandon’s life is to love Katie and their four beautiful kids, Hallie (7), Jordan (5), Carter (3) and Piper (1).

Lisa Hampson – Prayer & Pastoral Care: Lisa went to the Collegiate School and then the University of Virginia for a degree in architecture.  She received a Masters of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary, and is ordained with the Assemblies of God.   Lisa is close with her parents and her brother, as well as her extended family that live in Antigua, West Indies.  “Going to visit the family on the beaches of Antigua is hard” Lisa said, “but somebody has to do it.”  She loves working at Commonwealth Chapel and the opportunity it provides to impact people for God’s Kingdom.

John Wagler – Discipleship & Student Ministry: A graduate of the University of Richmond in 1998, John’s (a.k.a. “Wags”) time on the baseball field helped shape his motto, “Excuses are for Losers.”  This motto has carried over into his passion for golf, basketball, and all things Boston Red Sox.  He received his license for ministry in March of 2007, and is the Pastor over Discipleship & Student Ministries at Commonwealth Chapel.  He is excited about his role in helping the students and adults of this city become consistent and committed in their relationship with God.

Lacy Wagler – A Richmond native and a graduate of Freeman High School, then VCU art school in 2003, Lacy has been passionate about serving at Commonwealth since 2005.  Since marrying her husband John in June of 2001, they have been quite a team.  They are so happy to be working together in the areas of discipleship and student ministries at Commonwealth Chapel, as well as raising their twins Max and Neveah.

Dan Schultz – Worship: From the time Dan was 8 years old, playing music has been his passion.  Becoming well versed on the violin and guitar, Dan began feeling a greater call in his life during his teenage years.  After graduating from Sante Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL, and continuing his education at St. Leo University, he knew music and worship would ultimately be a major part of his destiny.  Dan and his wife Melissa have a passion to see God move mightily in people’s lives through the development of their openness to Him through worshiping in spirit and truth.

Brittany Spotts – Worship Administration: Brittany was born and raised in the suburbs of Richmond and never dreamed she’d be a city girl until moving to the Fan in 2006.  Brittany is a 2009 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, receiving a degree in mass communication.  She feels so blessed to be a part of a church community seeking to bring positive change and the love of Christ to the city she loves.  Brittany’s passions include running, the Philadelphia Eagles, and warm weather.

Josh Conrad – Student Ministry: The Church owns the unique and advantageous position of being the example to the next generation of how to follow Christ, and Commonwealth is no different.  It is with this belief that Josh leads 319youth, a dynamic and multi-cultural youth ministry aiming to provide a place of acceptance, discipleship and unrelenting adventure to the youth of Richmond.  Josh has filled every possible role in youth ministry, and passionately believes that teenagers deserve the very best the church can offer them.  He hails from the mighty state of Connecticut, where he met his wife, Stacey, and roots for the Yankees and Jets (or any team playing the Red Sox and Patriots) as if it was one of the Ten Commandments.

Laurie Huizenga – Administration: A native of Chicago, Laurie has always enjoyed an urban lifestyle.  This may be why she loves being a part of an urban church; one which wants to make a difference in the City of Richmond.  As a mother of 3, the one thing her husband and
she refuse to do is own a mini-van.   When she is not working or driving her kids around town, she loves to hit the tennis courts and also works on dining at every restaurant in Richmond.

Megan Huckabee – Children’s Ministry: Megan lived in Florida her whole life until deciding to leave such sunny conditions in 2004 to move to Richmond with her husband, Greg.  She is a graduate of Southeastern University, with a degree in Communications.  She has worked in the field of childcare in some capacity for over ten years.  Megan loves her position as co-director of the nursery and preschool at Commonwealth and doesn’t see working with children as work.  She and her husband are also thrilled to be parents of two boys, Kyle and Nate.

Leslie Martino – Children’s Ministry: Leslie was born in South Carolina, yet spent her entire childhood in New York City.  One could say that Richmond is a very happy medium for adulthood.  She has devoted her life to the Lord, her husband Adam, her three children Gabriella, Gio, and Johanna, as well as many children in the church.  She is so grateful that the Lord has called her and Adam to Richmond for this time away from the Big City.

Jason Snook – Mission:  A nine-year Hokie alumni(!), Jason and his wife Katie moved to Richmond in 2005 and immediately fell in love with the city.  Jason is passionate about equipping the church to serve the city.  He oversees Commonwealth Chapel’s urban mission efforts, primarily through the Missional Communities.  Jason and Katie are proud residents of the Carver Community where he serves on the neighborhood board (CACIL).  When Jason isn’t figuring out new ways to serve people in the city or sitting on his porch reading, he’s a Senior Manager at CapTech Consulting based here in Richmond.
